    Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine

Osteopathic physicians, DO's receive extensive training in a hands-on approach to healing. This approach is based on the observation that structure and function exist in harmony, thus improving structure leads to better function of the entire human (body, mind and spirit). Osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) treats everything from back pain to depression and more.

    Integrative Medicine

Integrative medicine combines conventional medicine with the best evidence based lifestyle approaches. Integrative medicine utilizes tools from all toolboxes available-- this may include lab testing when needed, lifestyle counseling (nutrition, stress management, sleep etc.), supplements or herbs, recommendations for other therapies or practitioners, and OMT as well as conventional medicine when needed.

    Labs

Dr. Gould believes that obtaining blood-based biomarkers through labs can be one of the greatest tools for patients to learn about their bodies and improve their health. There are multiple programs and apps to give patients access to labs and biomarkers without going through conventionally trained doctors (who often will limit what labs patients can receive at their annual physical due to lack of training).

Frequently
Asked
Questions

  • Conventional medicine (ie. a regular, insurance based primary care office) often focuses on symptom management, controlling disease by masking symptoms or signs of illness mostly through use of prescription medication, while integrative medicine focuses symptoms and when possible, truly healing from the condition. For example, doctors prescribe powerful anti-inflammatory medicine for arthritis pain rather than looking into why you are experiencing inflammation and pain in the first place.

  • Integrative medicine requires a deep investigation into your personal history and habits. This approach demands time that insurance companies do not allow doctors in typical family practice settings to spend with patients. Dr. Gould has chosen to open a private practice that does not accept insurance to combat the United States “sick-care system.” (link to blog)

Dr. Gould is an out-of-network provider. This means that no billing of insurance will occur, and payment is due in full at the time of service. This enables Dr. Gould to spend the time she needs with patients rather than being limited by insurance companies, allowing us to keep our overhead low for a small private practice.

  • Integrative medicine utilizes all tools available including both conventional medicine (what a regular MD doctor office would provide) and alternative (ie acupuncture, herbal medicine, lifestyle, supplements etc) and is root cause focused. Integrated medicine is often an approach that is now taken in the conventional world and involves utilizing behavioral health (therapists, psychiatrists), nutritionists, diabetes educators etc as well as the physician in primary care.
