How Can Osteopathic Care and Integrative Medicine Help?
Whether you’re ready to optimize your health or are navigating a chronic illness or injury, Dr. Gould focuses on root-cause medicine for people of all ages, from newborns to the elderly. Integrative medicine tools help you refine simple (not easy) lifestyle changes and habits leading to greater enjoyment of life.
Osteopathic Treatments
Dr. Gould offers osteopathic manipulative treatments, or OMT, to patients of all ages, from newborns to the elderly. She jokes that OMT is the best-kept secret in medicine because it can be so profoundly healing. This hands-on approach frees up the body’s structure to help improve overall mind, body, and spiritual function. OMT addresses everything from back pain to depression and overwhelm by helping the nervous system relax, so that the body can move into a state of healing.
Integrative Medicine
Integrative medicine combines conventional medicine with the best evidence-based lifestyle approaches. Dr. Gould combines her background and training in yoga, meditation, mindfulness, and functional, integrative medicine tools with a variety of resources, including lab testing as needed and lifestyle counseling in nutrition, stress management, sleep, etc. She is constantly learning and loves helping patients connect the dots and discover educational resources to understand how their lifestyle choices impact overall health.
Primary Care Medicine
Dr. Gould is a fully licensed physician, certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. She provides primary care services with a holistic approach and is experienced in managing complex patient illnesses of all ages. Dr. Gould can maintain your pre-existing prescription refills and work with you to wean down (or even off!) your medications in a safe, gentle manner. She’ll discuss all recommended conventional medical screenings and guidelines and suggest herbs, supplements, and lifestyle modifications to support your health. Please note Dr. Gould does not provide vaccines or PAP exams; these should be completed at your pharmacy or OB/GYN office, respectively. Referrals can be placed when needed.
Sports Medicine
Osteopathic manipulative medicine can be a fantastic healing or preventative tool for athletes. Dr. Gould provides you with stretches or exercises for injuries and the best integrative approaches for healing. She often prescribes exercise or strength training regimes and occasionally may recommend injections, which can be provided in-office. If needed, Dr. Gould will place a referral for orthopedic consultation or physical therapy.
Labs
Dr. Gould believes that obtaining blood-based biomarkers through labs can be one of the greatest tools for patients to learn about their bodies and improve their health. There are multiple programs and apps to give patients access to labs and biomarkers without going through conventionally trained doctors (who often will limit what labs patients can receive at their annual physical due to lack of training).
Dr. Gould is happy to provide this service for healthy patients wanting to optimize their health. For a flat fee, she will order you an extensive lab panel through LabCorp, followed by a 30-minute in-office visit to collect vital signs and review your results. Codes will be provided for insurance coverage of labs. Please note that many insurance companies will ask you to pay out-of-pocket for certain labs deemed “unnecessary.” If this concerns you, please let the practice know, and we will order only labs covered by most insurances, including Medicare.
DISCLAIMER: if something significant shows up on your labs, Dr. Gould insists that you follow up with a medical provider, whether with her or someone else.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Conventional medicine (ie. a regular, insurance based primary care office) often focuses on symptom management, controlling disease by masking symptoms or signs of illness mostly through use of prescription medication, while integrative medicine focuses on finding the root causes of pain. For example, doctors prescribe powerful anti-inflammatory medicine for arthritis pain rather than looking into why you are experiencing inflammation and pain in the first place.
-
Integrative medicine requires a deep investigation into your personal history and habits. This approach demands time that insurance companies do not allow doctors in typical family practice settings to spend with patients. Dr. Gould has chosen to open a private practice that does not accept insurance to combat the United States “sick-care system.”
Dr. Gould is an out-of-network provider. This means that no billing of insurance will occur, and payment is due in full at the time of service. This enables Dr. Gould to spend the time she needs with patients rather than being limited by insurance companies, allowing us to keep our overhead low for a small private practice. If you have private insurance however Dr. Gould will write you a "superbill" to submit to your insurance for reimbursement.
-
Osteopathic doctors are fully licensed physicians in the United States with extensive training in the musculoskeletal system and hands-on healing approaches. As an osteopathic doctor, Dr. Gould approaches wellness from the perspective that the human is an inseparable unit of body, mind, and spirit.
-
From an integrative approach, osteopathic medicine utilizes all tools to help you remove obstacles blocking you from the natural state of the human organism, which is health. True health is not just the absence of disease but a state of radiance and vitality when all aspects of the body-mind-spirit unit are in harmony.
-
New patient appointments are 75 minutes and include a full, comprehensive history as well as a structural examination and OMM if appropriate. Dr. Gould will usually recommend basic labs (if not done recently) and a food journal to be completed for the most complete look at your current health and habits.
-
Please wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing such as what you might wear to a yoga class.
-
Every patient and every condition is an individual so this will be determined on a patient to patient basis. Often we will see each other more frequently in the beginning with the goal of stretching out appointment times as conditions improve.
-
Because Osteopathic manipulative medicine functions as a "reset" to re-distribute tensions in the system we recommend you "take it easy" for 1-3 days after treatment. You may even experience some soreness after a treatment as certain muscles that have been inhibited or under-working come back online and over-active muscles and tissues are relaxed. Dr. Gould will recommend stretches or strengthening as needed on an individual basis.
Pricing and Fees
Dr. Gould is an out-of-network provider. This means that no billing of insurance will occur, and payment is due in full at the time of service. This enables Dr. Gould to spend the time she needs with patients rather than being limited by insurance companies, enabling Durango Integrative Medicine to keep overhead low.
Superbills and medical receipts
The practice will provide you with a superbill or medical receipt that may be submitted to the insurance company for reimbursement. If you would like to inquire with your insurance company for their reimbursement rate before your treatment, the medical billing codes typically used are 99205 for new patient office visits and 99214 or 99215 for follow-up office visits.
Medicare and Medicaid
The practice is opted OUT of Medicare and Medicaid currently. Dr. Gould is looking into potential options for the future regarding Medicare and Medicaid. If you have these insurances, you will not be able to submit for reimbursement currently. We have a discounted sliding-scale rate for patients who qualify based on income for Medicare patients. Unfortunately, at the moment we will not be able to see you if you have Medicaid due to Colorado law. If you have Medicaid, check back in a few months! It is our goal that finances are not a roadblock to receiving care. Dr. Gould does believe that patients get the most out of treatment when they put money into their personal care. Payment plans are available upon request.
