Natalie Gould, DO

Growing up in Durango, Colorado, Dr. Gould has always loved the outdoors and, from a young age, has been interested in health, healing, and natural medicine. Dr. Gould was drawn to osteopathic medicine specifically when she shadowed her mentor, the now-retired Dr. Paul Lee. Watching him work and observing the amazing healing miracles he helped his patients achieve sparked a deep passion for osteopathic and root-cause medicine.

Dr. Gould completed her undergraduate training at Montana State University. She took several years off to become fully trained in yoga therapy, and worked as a full-time yoga teacher. You may recognize her from YogaDurango by her maiden name, Natalie Brandsma.

A love for learning and drive to understand human health led her to complete her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree in Parker, Colorado, at Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine. During her time there, she was selected for the highly competitive pre-doctoral fellowship in Osteopathic Principles and Practices, which added a 5th year to the four-year medical school curriculum and allowed her to explore and access further traditional osteopathic medicine training.

Following medical school, Dr. Gould completed a traditional three-year residency in Family Medicine with Peak Vista Community healthcare centers in Colorado Springs, a federally qualified healthcare organization focused on providing care for under-served and impoverished populations. She received full conventional training and is comfortable providing care to patients in a variety of settings, including inpatient hospitals for pediatric and adult patients, the emergency department, and urgent cares.

She also worked with many specialists and had her own patient panel through Peak Vista, where she functioned as a family physician providing osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM). Dr. Gould often had other attending physicians and co-residents refer her patients for higher-level OMM care and continued to further her knowledge of osteopathic medicine throughout her training.

As an osteopathic physician, Dr. Gould understands the human being as a unit of body, mind, and spirit. Balance in each of these systems is needed for optimal health and well-being. Her goal is to apply an understanding of anatomy and physiology to the patient’s unique integrated system to help remove interferences blocking them from the vital expression of health that is all human’s birthright.

Dr. Gould utilizes osteopathic manipulative treatments, integrative medicine (including nutrition and lifestyle analysis and counseling), and her extensive knowledge of herbs, supplements, yoga, meditation, and conventional medicine to provide well-rounded whole-person care. She treats a broad scope of patients with a variety of diagnosed and un-diagnosed conditions, including migraines, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, insomnia, anxiety and depression, digestive issues, athletes desiring peak performance, patients recovering from concussion, injury or surgery, pregnant or lactating women, babies, nursing issues, and more. Whether she’s treating newborns or the elderly and every age and stage between, Dr. Gould has a passion for figuring out the root cause of disease rather than simply prescribing another medication (though she does prescribe medications when necessary).

Outside of medicine, Dr. Gould enjoys spending time in the majestic outdoors of Durango, Colorado, with her husband and their two children. She still loves to practice yoga and meditation and obsessively reads fiction and non-fiction. She looks forward to meeting you and joining your care team on your journey toward radiant health and well-being.

What is Osteopathic and Integrative Health Care?

From an integrative approach, osteopathic medicine utilizes all tools to help you remove obstacles blocking you from the natural state of the human organism, which is health. True health is not just the absence of disease but a state of radiance and vitality when all aspects of the body-mind-spirit unit are in harmony.
